Girls soccer: Hanson's late goal lifts Grayslake North

Lauren Hansen scored off a pass from Emma Hochstein with less than two minutes left, and Grayslake North edged Grayslake Central 1-0 in Northern Lake County Conference girls soccer action Tuesday night.

"Definitely proud of our girls' performance tonight," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "While we have played in several tough games so far this season, this one was guaranteed to be a battle, and that's exactly what it was. We played very tough behind the ball, limiting how many chances they had, but struggled to find the final touch needed to put the ball in the back of the net."

Grayslake North keeper Emily Dunne made 5 saves in earning the shutout.

Stevenson 1, Libertyville 0: Abby Kalou scored in the first half off an assist from Krissy Hill, and the Patriots pulled out the North Suburban Conference win.

Stevenson (9-1-2) got 10 saves from Jenny Staten in net.

"Another long night for our defense with good play from Jenny in goal," Patriots coach PepeJon Chavez said.

Libertyville keeper Kendall Edwards had 7 saves.

Deerfield, 1, Vernon Hills 1: Ziggy Jezorski scored an unassisted goal for the Cougars' lone tally in the Central Suburban League North Division match.

Daniella Jarrell stopped 7 of 8 shots in net for Vernon Hills (4-4-3, 0-1-1).

"The girls played good soccer tonight," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "I thought they played well enough to win. We just could not capitalize on our chances."

Wauconda 5, Grant 0: Bella Johnson scored her fifth goal of the season and notched her third assist when she set up her sister Savannah in the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Megan Sinnott, Dakota Thompson and Jordan Bodden also scored for Wauconda (8-1-1). Mackenzie Arden made 1 save in earning her seventh shutout on the season.

Grant goalie Arianna Davis had 14 saves.

Lakes 9, North Chicago 0: Noelia Padilla had 2 goals and 2 assists for the Eagles, who led the Northern Lake County Conference game 8-0 at halftime.

Simone Lippmann and Halle Edwards also scored twice each for Lakes (2-5-2, 1-0-1). Sophia Donis, Zoe Kane and Abbey Findley scored as well, while goalies Taylor Primack and Megan Maloney each played half the game and had 1 save apiece.

"Both teams made the best of it with good sportsmanship displayed by both sides," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said.

Lake Zurich 8, Zion-Benton 0: The Bears did all of their scoring in the first half of the North Suburban Conference match.

Cassidy Johnston had a goal and 2 assists for Lake Zurich (8-4-1), while Haley Brousseau and Abby DeGustino each had a goal and an assist. The Bears' other goal scorers were Maddy Piggott, Jenna Krause, Morgan Long, Rachel Krueger and Ashleigh Stanovich. Bears keeper Paige Grossenbacher made 1 save.

Warren 8, Waukegan 0: Athena McGinn and Emily Soriaga each scored twice for the Blue Devils in North Suburban Conference action.

Cate Cullison, Morgan Liebau, Ella Skelton and Elizabeth Weinberg also scored for Warren (6-4-1, 1-0). Cullison added 3 assists, and Courtney Chomko had 2 assists. Amber Langosch, Skelton and Weinberg assisted on goals as well.

Warren keeper Sarah Barbosa had 1 save in the shutout.

Lake Forest 1, Mundelein 0: The host Scouts scored in the opening half of the North Suburban Conference match.

Mundelein fell to 3-5 and 0-1 in the NSC.
