Softball: Koshy homers twice as Grayslake Central wins again
Elisa Koshy homered twice, doubled and knocked in four runs, and Grayslake Central's softball team defeated Wauconda 13-1 in five innings in Northern Lake County Conference action Thursday.
It was the seventh win in a row for the Rams (10-2, 3-0).
Madeline Peterson hit a solo homer for Grayslake Central, which got 2 hits apiece from Grace Bradley, Avery Nims, Rachel Smigielski (double, 2 RBI) and Ashlynn Coleman (double, 2 RBI). Kennedy Stoffel added a single and 2 RBI, and Corinne Heidloff (3-0) allowed 2 hits over 5 innings.
Wauconda got a double from Zehra Hussain.
Grayslake North 14, Antioch 1: The Knights handed the Sequoits their first loss of the year.
Freshman Gianna Certa got the six-inning victory, scattering 2 hits to go along with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. She had a perfect game through 4⅓ innings. Alyssa Carr led the way for Grayslake North (8-6, 3-1) in the Northern Lake County Conference game, going 4-for-4 with an RBI. Ashton Moore (2-for-4) hit her first varsity home run, a 3-run shot, and finished with 4 RBI. Meghan Delahunty (2-for-4, walk), Certa, Faith Standerski (2 RBI), Grace Brown (RBI, walk), Nicole Hughes and Jess Pozezinski (double, RBI) all had hits for the Knights.
Freshman Gabby Debevec had both hits for Antioch (8-1-1, 2-1). She singled, doubled, stole a base and drove in the Sequoits' lone run.
Libertyville 9, Prospect 0: Amanda Page struck out 10 and allowed just 1 walk and 4 hits in a complete-game effort to lead the Wildcats to the nonconference win.
Page (8-3) also had a double. Maggie Evers homered and doubled, finishing 2-for-4, and Emma Fields was 2-for-4 with a double as well. Libertyville (9-4) got 2-for-3 efforts from Aliya Haddon (2 RBI) and Lexie Hill (double). Katie Jahncke was 1-for-1.
