Girls soccer: Lisle clobbers conference foe

A sunny spring day was a perfect time for young and old to get some outdoor enjoyment, and the Lisle girls soccer team did exactly that Tuesday.

Seniors Alexa Fasone and McKenzie Weaver combined to score 5 goals, freshman Emma Webb had a goal and 2 assists, and sophomore Emma Fasone had 1 goal and 1 assist as the host Lions routed Reed-Custer 8-0 at Wilde Field.

Senior Rina Yamada tallied the other goal and senior Chloe Pokorny dished out an assist for Lisle (6-0-1, 3-0 Interstate Eight Conference), which held Reed-Custer (2-3-1, 0-2) without a shot.

"We've been practicing for this a lot," Alexa Fasone said. "It was a beautiful day, so we just took our positive energy, moved the ball around to everyone we possibly could and the offense did a great job.

"We worked really well as a team and we're really proud."

The onslaught started in the first few minutes as the Lions hit the crossbar and a post with their first two shots. Webb hit the back of the net first, going top shelf with a 10-yard shot at the 30:35 mark of the first half.

After two more shots hit the post, Lisle scored on three consecutive shots, with Weaver sandwiching both of her goals around one by Alexa Fasone, who added two more goals in the second half to record a hat trick.

"We're young and I'm pretty excited with this group," Lisle coach Paul Kohorn said. "We've got a great group of girls here. We've got so many kids that are standing out."

The Comets could get nothing past Lisle's back line of Maddie Hutchinson, Cassidy Allen, Madison Manns and Carolyn Romo, which rarely allowed the ball across midfield.

Reed-Custer got worn down by constantly having to chase the ball and the Lions again scored on back-to-back-to-back shots midway through the second half. Fasone volleyed home a cross from Pokorny and then drilled a 20-yard rocket under the crossbar to make it 7-0 before Yamada finished the scoring with 7:30 left.

"It's just so much fun," Webb said. "(Playing varsity as a freshman) is a great opportunity to be given by coach Kohorn and all the players.

"Just the whole vibe from our whole team is so positive. With Alexa and McKenzie and Chloe, we have such a great senior force this year. They are so peppy and they keep our team always trying our hardest to do the best that we can."
