Girls soccer: Grayslake North, Vernon Hills settle for draw
Grayslake North and visiting Vernon Hills each scored in the first half and settled for a 1-1 tie in a nonconference girls soccer match Saturday.
Julia Neary scored an unassisted goal for Vernon Hills (2-3-2), while Daniella Jarrell made 6 saves in net.
"I think we played well enough to win in terms of possession and scoring chances," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "We need to be more clinical in front of the goal."
Grayslake North (2-3-1) got a goal from Emma Dusek in the 16th minute, as fellow sophomore Willow Silverman earned the assist. Knights keeper Emily Dunne had 9 saves.
"Today was a tough game against a strong Vernon Hills team in which I am proud of the effort and performance of our girls," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "Vernon Hills is disciplined, has a plan with what they are trying to do and, for moments in the game, we had to rely on some really strong performances by several of our girls behind the ball."
Mundelein 2, Lakes 0: The visiting Mustangs got goals from Gigi Sahagun and Morgan Albertson in the nonconference match.
Nicole Robb and Abbie Walters had assists.
Lake Zurich loses twice: The Bears lost a pair of games in their own invite to fall to 2-4-1 on the season.
Prairie Ridge defeated Lake Zurich 5-2, before Hersey shut out the Bears 1-0.
Ashleigh Stanovich and Maddy Piggott scored for the Bears against Prairie Ridge.
