Softball: Shanahan's hit lifts Mundelein past Barrington in 9 innings

Kellie Shanahan's bases loaded, one-out single up the middle drove home Tess McKay, as Mundelein beat Barrington 5-4 in nine innings Saturday, salvaging a split in the Barrington Quad at the Fields of Dreams.

McKay was running for Elise Bernett. Emm Hallin threw all 9 innings for the Mustangs, allowing 1 earned run.

Mundelein had 10 hits, including a pair by Cheyenne Pellettiere (2-for-3), who also had a double and 2 RBI.

The Mustangs lost to Elk Grove 13-11 in their first game of the day. Kira Buckner allowed 1 earned run in 5⅔ innings, striking out eight. Buckner also homered and drove in 3 runs, and Pellettiere was 3-for-4.
