Baseball: St. Viator coming home from Arizona undefeated

Jack Mahoney did a little bit of everything for St. Viator's baseball team on Friday.

Mahoney, a junior committed to South Carolina, had 2 hits including a double and a home run and drove in 4 runs as the Lions defeated Lakewood (CO) 10-7 in their final game of their spring break trip to Arizona.

Viator, which moved to 6-0 for the season, also got a 3-run homer from Casey Kmet and 2 RBI from Joe Brunetti.

Kevin Wilhite started on the mound and picked up the win for the Lions while Owen Hickey earned the save.

St. Viator flew home Friday night and is scheduled to play a nonconference doubleheader at Prospect on Saturday.

Hersey 13, Lakes 0: Finishing up their trip to Tennessee, the Huskies (5-0) got 2 hits including a home run and 4 RBI from Jake Irwin to remain undefeated. Adding to the Hersey offense were AJ Ceffalio (2 hits, 3 RBI), James Denten (2B, RBI), Daniel Clawson (2 hits), Hunter Luke (2 hits, RBI) and Trey Schmidt (3B). Denten worked four innings on the mound for the win, allowing 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks.

Schaumburg 4, Streamwood 3: Tyler Slome (2 hits, 2 RBI), Tyler Robinson (2 hits) and Yuki Sato (2B) led the Saxons (4-1) in their nonconference win. Jack Bahn got the pitching win in relief.

Barrington 7, Glenoak (OH) 5: The Broncos completed a successful trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., as Michigan commit Clark Elliott had a home run and 4 RBI to lead the way. Jon Gardner (2B, 2 RBI), Max Raynor and Will Koehler added 2 hits each for Barrington (7-2). Sammy Sabatello, one of four Barrington pitcher, was credited with the win.

Leyden 10, Fenton 0: Charlie Martini tossed a 1-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks as Leyden (3-2) rolled to a nonconference win. Leading the Eagles' offense were Christian Tokarz (2 hits, 2 RBI), Cole Wilson (RBI), Danny Dettermann (RBI), Spencer Messina (2 hits, RBI) and Uli Hernandez (2 hits, RBI), who all had doubles.

Maine South 2, Willowbrook 1: Sam Corbett tossed a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead the Hawks (6-2) to a nonconference win. Aiden Teahan drove in a run for Maine South.
