Girls bowling: Antioch snares NLCC title

It's a great time of the season when you see your team come together. Antioch led from the start to the finish and won the Northern Lake County Conference girls bowling championship at Antioch Lanes on Friday.

The Sequoits rolled a six-game total of 5,535 ahead of Grant (5,342) and Wauconda (5,329). Grayslake Central was fourth (5,090), Round Lake fifth (4,737), Lakes sixth (4,477), Grayslake North seventh (4,241) and North Chicago (3,879) eighth.

"I thought we could do it," Antioch coach Phil Lindberg said. "We've been working really hard lately. They have been bowling like a team now."

Antioch started out strong over its first three games with a 3,019 that included games of 938, 1,048 and 1,033. The Sequoits finished up with a 2,516 over their last three games.

"It's been a good change for us," Lindberg added. "From the get-go, they knew that they could go for everything. We should be ready for the regionals."

The Sequoits will have the benefit next Saturday of hosting the regional back at Antioch Lanes.

Antioch was led by Alyssa Olson, the top individual bowler with a 1,308. She rolled games of 225, 213 and 245 for a 673 morning set and followed up with 259, 203 and 163 for a 625 series in the final three.

The other Sequoit bowlers were Allison Kane (1,120), Lynn Michaels (1,103), Alyssa Tanner (1,082) and Kayla Tikovitsch (922).

Madeline Cimo of Grant was the runner-up (1,265) and Wauconda's Jasmine McKeel placed third (1,199).
