Murray, Elk Grove edge Jacobs

Make it five wins out of its last eight games for Elk Grove's girls basketball team.

Coach Jen Guth's Grenadiers pulled out a 42-41 nonconference win over visiting Jacobs on Thursday night to tune up for their Mid-Suburban East contest at Rolling Meadows on Friday.

Junior Megan Murray had the hot hand for the winners (10-12), converting four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 17 points.

Senior Rachel Kandefer and freshman Lili Duckmann each added 8 points for the Grens while teammates Kaitlyn Ingebrigsten, Olivia Masnica and Alyssa Trausch also made it into the scoring column,

The Grenadiers are still without starter Isabella Tierney, who Guth is hoping to possibly get back in one to two weeks.

"We're not sure yet," the coach said after Wednesday's loss to Hersey. "I don't think they're going to go ahead and do surgery yet. We've just got to see how she feels."

Leyden 51, Von Steuben 43: Leyden junior Evelyn Abundes connected for six 3-pointer for a team-high 18 points in the nonconference win. Classmates Jamyah Tate chipped in 15 points and Becky Perez 8 for the visiting Eagles (6-16).
