Girls swimming: Jacobs-Hampshire claims FVC title

Since the first day of practice in August, Jacobs-Hampshire coach Emily Peterson believed her team had enough talent to win the Fox Valley Conference championship.

Mission accomplished.

With 2 first place finishers along with 5 runners-up, the Golden Eagles achieved its goal by winning the FVC girls swimming title with 265 points Saturday at Woodstock North.

McHenry with 6 first place finishes was second with 239 points.

"We knew McHenry had an outstanding team and they swam very well," said Peterson. "From Day 1, we thought we had the talent to win the conference. Everybody contributed. It was an awesome team effort. All our hard work paid off."

The lone individual champion for the Eagles was Monasterio (100 backstroke, 1:00.23).

"I was swimming tired but had enough kick at the end," said Monasterio. "I wanted to help the team."

Second-place accolades were earned by Jennifer Tokarz (200 free style, 500 free style) and Koltuniuk (100 breaststroke).

Jacobs-Hampshire placed behind first-place McHenry in the 200 freestyle relay (Monasterio, Kate Trembly, Tokarz) and 400 freestyle relay (Trembly, Peterson, Herrera, Tokarz).
