Girls tennis: Stevenson's Kolli sisters will play for state doubles title

Stevenson's sisters doubles team will be playing for the Class 2A state championship on Saturday.

The Patriots' Alaina Kolli and Athena Kolli defeated Monique Brual/Samara Michael of Highland Park 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in Friday's semifinals, which were moved indoors due to the rainy weather.

The Kolli sisters, a 3-4 seed, will take on Wheaton Warrenville South's Samantha Choi/Emily Orlove, an unseeded team that upset No. 1 seed Akari Matsuno/Kyra Emmanouilidis of Fremd 6-1, 6-4 in the other semifinal.

The Patriots' duo reached the semifinals thanks to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sandburg's Anna Loureiro/Jayme Gross.

Meanwhile, Stevenson's doubles team of seniors Elizabeth Ferdman/Alyssa Glaser (5-8 seed) are scheduled to face Glenbrook South's Elle Stewart/Jayne Fradin in a fourth-round consolation match on Saturday at Schaumburg.

Mundelein doubles partners Isabel Alviar and Mikayla Edquiban won their third-round consolation match Friday, capturing a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Rockton Hononegah's Hsing-Yng Louh/Reagan Wells. Alviar/Edquiban are next scheduled to face Lockport's Brianna Hillock/Cassidy Hillock at Schaumburg.

Libertyville sophomore Lily VanDixhorn, who went 2-1 on Thursday, was set to play her third-round consolation match against Lake Park's Analisa Cruz at Palatine.

When action was completed Friday, Hinsdale Central stood in first place with 22 points. Lake Forest is in second place with 18 points and Stevenson stands in third with 17 points.

The third place and championship matches are set to be played at Buffalo Grove at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Class 1A

Lakes sophomore Megan Heuser fell short of playing for a state championship, falling to North Shore Country Day's Claudia Miller in Friday's semifinals.

Competing on Day 2 of the tournament, Heuser cruised in her quarterfinal match, dispatching 5-8 seed Jennifer Lewis of Chicago University 6-1, 6-0. The top-seeded Heuser then fell to North Shore Country Day's Claudia Miller, a 3-4 seed, 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 in the semifinals, which were played indoors due to the rainy weather.

Heuser will play Vivian Miller of NSCD for third place on Saturday at Buffalo Grove. Vivian Miller lost to McKenna Schaefbauer of Normal U-High in Friday's other semifinal match.

Lakes' doubles team of Kylie Jozwik/Melissa Variny saw their season end with a 7-6 (8), 6-2 loss to Centralia's Michelle Lynch/Piper Marcum in the third round of the consolation bracket.

It was the same story for Antioch's doubles duo of Piper Foote/Sierra Ward. After two consolation-bracket wins Thursday, the Sequoits' duo dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Peoria Notre Dame's Sydnee O'Donnell/Grace Couri.

Grayslake Central sophomore Karishma Bhalla, who went 2-1 on Thursday, was scheduled to play Reagan Ridgway of Herrin in a fourth-round consolation match at Hoffman Estates.

By Friday's end, North Shore Country Day sat in first place with 27 points, followed by Chicago Latin in second with 22 points. Chicago University High is in third place with 16 points, Normal University is in fourth with 14, while Lakes, Chicago Payton and Ottawa were tied for fifth (12 points each).
