The skinny: Two years ago, Ottawa was one goal away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Final. Now? It might be the worst team in the league. Having traded superstar D-man Erik Karlsson to San Jose, the Senators are officially working on a multiyear rebuild. There is still some talent in Matt Duchene (27 goals) and Mark Stone (20 goals in 58 games), and it will be interesting to see how Brady Tkachuk - the fourth overall pick in June's draft - does as a rookie. (He will miss the season opener with an undisclosed injury.) All in all, it should be a rough season for the Sens. … For the Hawks, 19-year-old D-man Henri Jokiharju will make his NHL debut and be paired with Duncan Keith. … Cam Ward starts in net. … Patrick Kane needs 39 assists to go from sixth in Blackhawks history to third. … Brent Seabrook needs five goals for 100 in his career. … Jonathan Toews needs 18 assists for 400, which would tie Pierre Pilote for eighth in Hawks history.
