Boys golf: Vernon Hills snares 8th straight regional

St. Viator regional: At Old Orchard Country Club in Mount Prospect, Vernon Hills captured its eighth regional championship in a row.

The Cougars, who advance to next Monday's Class 2A Kaneland sectional at Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn, shot a 302. They were led by Sujay Voleti's 4-over-par 74. Brendan Wise was a shot back with a 75, Rohan Vasedeva carded a 76, and Joey Levitan and Gavin Gilfand had matching 77s. Greg Tow shot an 84 for the Cougars.

St. Viator (305) and Antioch (331) also advanced.

Antioch was led by Alex Riedel's 74, which tied him for third with Voleti. Antioch also counted Trevor Gregory's 80, Nick Gagnon's 87 and Tony Sertic's 90.

Grayslake Central (348) finished fourth but qualified Gianni Luchessi (80) and Brendan Kick (89) for the sectional. Others advancing included Grayslake North's Adam Calhoun (80), Lakes' Brad Bies (82) and Jayden Medina (86), and Wauconda's Matt Szmajda (82) and Joe Hutson (87).

St. Viator's Timmy Crawford was the medalist with an even-par 70.
