Chicago Cubs look to Quintana to tame Brewers again

The Chicago Cubs feel they have the right pitcher going against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 163 Monday.

Left-hander Jose Quintana will take the mound at 12:05 p.m. His opponent could be right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, but the Brewers have not made that official.

This year, Quintana is 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA against the Brewers. For his career, he is 6-2 with a 1.60 ERA vs. Milwaukee.

"I feel good about it," said Cubs manager Joe Maddon. "Chacin is good. We've done better against them more recently. But it's a different animal tomorrow. Everybody's going to be in this heightened awareness. I've talked about being even more aware than normal. That's all I want. Go out there and play your game. Just grind those at-bats out and catch the ball on defense.

"We need a good start out of Q. That's really important for us to be successful tomorrow, and that's going to be a big part of it. We had looked at that early on. That was part of the planning in the past, that if it ever came down to this, Q has had pretty good success against them. We'll see how it plays out. It's a big game, a fun game."

Overall this season, Quintana is 13-11 with a 4.09 ERA.

Get your tickets:

The Cubs will offer an in-person purchase opportunity beginning at 8 a.m. Monday at the Wrigley Field ticket office located on Clark Street, just north of the marquee.

Fans also can purchase tickets for the game by telephone beginning at 8:30 a.m. by calling 800-THE-CUBS (800-843-2827). Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

One hundred once again:

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo reached the 100 RBI mark Sunday for the fourth year in a row. He became the first left-handed hitter in franchise history with four seasons of at least 100 RBI. Rizzo is the first Cub with at least 100 RBI in four consecutive seasons since Sammy Sosa, who did it nine straight years (1995-2003).

"It's a credit to all the guys," Rizzo said. "They get on base, score a lot … It's something I take pride in, that's for sure. It something, to be honest, I did not think I'd be able to reach in the middle of May this year. It feels good, but all that personal stuff does not matter right now without getting a 'W' tomorrow."

Long time coming:

Willson Contreras hit his 10th home run of the season Sunday and his first since Aug. 1. It was his first homer at Wrigley Field since July 20. He is the first Cubs catcher with at least 10 homers in three seasons since Geovany Soto (four straight seasons, 2008-11).
