Boys soccer: Dundee-Crown takes 2nd at Hononegah Invite

Dundee-Crown's boys soccer team defeated Guilford and Sterling before falling to Beloit in the championship game to take second at the Rockton Hononegah Invitational on Saturday.

The Chargers (10-2-1) started with a 2-1 win over Guilford on first-half goals by Ivan Aviles and Calvin Carlos, assisted by Jason Miller.

Keeper Venancio Mejia, made 2 saves.

Dundee-Crown blanked Sterling 5-0. Thomas Sarmiento started the scoring on an assist from Damian Smiech just five minutes into the match, and four minutes later Roland Dearborn made it 2-0 on an assist from Samuel Lopez.

Sarmiento (Lopez) and Miller (Joahan Cruz) also scored in the first half. Sarmiento netted his third goal on an assist from Roland Dearborn.

Mejia made 3 saves in the loss to Beloit.

Elgin 5, Hampshire 2: Omar Lopez scored two more goals and added an assist. He now has 18 goals in 9 games for Elgin (7-1-1).

St. Edward 1, Stagg 0: Uriel Carachure put the only ball of the match in the back of the net on an assist by Jacob Shepherd, giving St. Edward the win in the semifinals of the U.S. Coast Guard Bracket of the 16th Annual PepsiCo Showdown.

Evan Sajtar made 6 saves as St. Edward improves to 9-1-1.

Carachure scored his goal on a header from a cross by Shepherd.

St. Edward advances to its second consecutive PepsiCo championship game next Sunday at Robert Morris University.

Streamwood 2. Fenwick 0: Edwin Peralta and Alex Chavez scored the goals for the Sabres, now 7-3.

Bryan Mora and Ethan Satsatin had assists.

Addison Trail 3, Crystal Lake South 0: In the PepsiCo Army Bracket consolation, the Gators lost despite 4 saves by Oscar Estrada and 2 by Matt McCaleb.

Crystal Lake South finishes tournament 2-2 and is now 9-2-1 on the year.

Soto 3, Huntley 2: Huntley Brandon Rufner tallied the first goal for Huntley (1-9) from Axel Solis in the 53rd minute, and Solis scored the next one from Josh Lopez in the 72nd minute.
