Carda, Bandits cruise to victory

AKRON, Ohio - Ally Carda did it all for the Chicago Bandits on Thursday night at Firestone Stadium. The second-year right-hander collected her fourth win of the season in the circle and helped her own cause with her first career home run to ignite a 12-2 rout of the Cleveland Comets.

Carda, who took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, delivered 5.1 strong innings of work. The former UCLA standout allowed just a single run and struck out eight in the victory. Her no-hit effort came to an end in the sixth when Comets rookie Chloe Miller sent a double to the left-center field gap.

Carda (W, 4-3) received plenty of offensive support to back her performance in the circle. In addition to Carda's two-run blast in the second inning to open up the scoring, four other Bandits homered in the win. League leader Emily Carosone launched her 11th long ball of the season, while rookies Courtney Gano, DJ Sanders and Jessie Scroggins joined in the home run parade, as well.

Gano's blast, her fourth of the season and third in her past four games, continued to solidify her candidacy as one of the NPF's top first-year performers. The former Washington standout's 24 RBI rank third on the club.

The five collective home runs marked the first time the Bandits smacked five long balls in a game since a 12-8 win over the Akron Racers on May 30, 2014.

Ten different Bandits players reached base in the dominant offensive display.

Comets rookie right-hander Devin Brown suffered the loss and fell to 3-15 on the season.

The Bandits secured a three-game sweep of the Comets at Firestone Stadium and will look to continue their momentum against Cleveland on Friday at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
