Bandits lose no-hit bid - and the game

VIERA, Fla. - Rachele Fico took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before USSSA Pride second baseman Sierra Romero unloaded a 3-run home run to center as the Chicago Bandits lost their second consecutive game by a score of 3-1 Tuesday at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida.

Fico, who allowed just 1 hit across 6 strong innings of work, suffered fell to 2-1 on the season.

Romero's 3-run blast was the only offense of the day for the Pride (15-0), which backed southpaw Keilani Ricketts' effort in the circle.

Ricketts tossed a complete game and allowed 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 3. She fanned pinch-hitter Gwen Svekis for the final out of the contest and moved to 2-0 during the 2018 campaign.

The Bandits (18-2) scored the game's first run via a third-inning RBI groundout from Courtney Gano, who returned to the starting lineup after a brief stint with Team USA in Texas and Japan. The rookie infielder, who spent the 2017 season playing overseas in the Italian Softball League, also reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Veteran catcher Kristyn Sandberg also collected a pair of hits, including a seventh-inning double.
