Softball: St. Charles North, Kaneland, Huntley pick up wins

Jillian Waslawski fired a 3-hit shutout leading St. Charles North to a 3-0 win over Hampshire in nonconference action Thursday.

Waslawski, Alyssa Eby and Anastasia Pappas drove in runs for the North Stars (15-9). Ashlyn Jozefowicz hit a triple while Delaney Rummell doubled for the Whip-Purs for the only 2 extra-base hits in the game.

Batavia 15, Streamwood 0: The Bulldogs continued their hot play of late behind a 2-hit shutout from Noelle Chaney, who struck out 9 and only walked 1. Chaney also had 2 of the team's 18 hits and 3 RBI and had plenty of help from Jaelen Lisberg (2-2), Kaylan Waldron (3-4), Cassidy Carby (2-3), Allison Bahlmann (1-3, HR, 4 RBI), Molly Costigan (3-4), Hanna Mackowiak (2-3) and Peyton Sachse (2-3).

Geneva 13, Elgin 0: The Vikings (20-7, 13-5) recorded their 20th win behind Emily Viebrock's 1-hitter. Katie Keller homered and doubled, and Katie Geary hit a triple.

Kaneland 2, Yorkville 1: The Knights (21-9) played error-free softball to win their 10th straight game. Emily Erickson allowed 4 hits with 10 strikeouts in the complete game, improving to 15-4. Donatela Sommesi led the offense with 2 hits.

Burlington Central 8, Johnsburg 5: The Rockets (17-5) pounded out 15 hits led by Danielle Yurgil (3-4, 2 runs), Julia Barnes (2-4, 3 RBI), Lindsay Jamrozek (2-4, 2 runs), Maissie Rabe (2-4, 2 RBI) and Sarah Kinney (2-2). Barnes earned the win pitching the first 6 innings and striking out 8.

Huntley 8, Cary-Grove 3: Tiffany Giese improved to 19-2, scattering 7 hits and allowing 3 runs in her 4 innings. She also went 2-for-3 with 2 runs at the plate. Marley Reicher and Autumn Kasal both had 3 hits, and Kasal homered and had 4 RBI. Sofia Tenuta went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for Fox Valley Conference champion Huntley (26-5, 14-1) while Kelly Johnson and Alina Krembuszewski had 2 hits for Cary-Grove (14-11-1).

Dundee-Crown 2, Sycamore 1: Sydney Ruggles allowed 4 hits, a walk and an unearned run while striking out 5. She also had 2 hits and the only RBI for the Chargers (18-10).

Crystal Lake South 10, Marian Central 3: Brooke Kuffel was 3-for-4 with 5 RBI for the Gators (19-6). Kyra Swartz went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and Baylee Kassel also had 2 hits.

St. Edward 4, St. Viator 3: Jessy Kramp had 2 hits and 2 RBI to help herself earn the win. In the circle, Kramp fanned 8 in the complete game, walking 4 and allowing 9 hits. Sarah Mendoza also had 2 hits for St. Edward (11-16).

Aurora Central Catholic 11, Elmwood Park 1: Sharika Been (3-4, 2 runs), Alheli Velazquez (2-4, HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Dani Brown (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 doubles), Lizzie Albert (2-3, HR, 3 RBI) and Stephanie Alagna (2-3) all had multiple hits in an easy win for the Chargers. Brown pitched the first 4 innings, striking out 6 and allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
