Girls soccer: Burlington Central downs Hinsdale Central

The Burlington Central girls soccer team, ranked No 12 in the latest Daily Herald Top 20 poll, defeated Hinsdale Central 2-1 at the Naperville Invite hosted by Geneva.

After a scoreless first half, Zoey Kolhoff and Megan Majewski mustered second half goals while Jordan King and Isa Hartmann supplied assists. Goalkeeper Erin Rafferty helped Central improve to 12-2 overall with 5 saves.

St. Edward 9, Guerin 0: The Green Wave (12-3-1, 5-0) wrapped up the Metro Suburban West championship undefeated with a lopsided win at Greg True Field. Madison Knott totaled 2 goals and 1 assist while Rachel Martini had 1 goal and 5 assists. Also scoring goals were Katie Ellsworth, Maddie Ellsworth, Ari Franco, Yssa Sto. Domingo (1 save in goal) and Mariel Franco. Rachel Hicks also had 1 assist.

West Aurora 5, Larkin 0: The Blackhawks' Upstate Eight crossover win saw Itzel Ochoa go for a hat trick while Audrey Stephens topped 2 goals and 1 assist. Riley O'Brien featured a hat trick of assists and both Hannah Gove and Samara Martinez had a combined shutout for West Aurora (5-5-2).

Aurora Central 4, Illiana Christian 0: Mary Canning's 2 goals and 1 assist propelled the Chargers (9-6-2, 2-3) to a Metro Suburban win. Alexa Orozco had 1 goal and 1 assist and Tori Lee added a goal as well. Shannon LoPresti added an assist and keeper Alex Montalbano recorded 4 saves to grab a shutout.

Elgin 3, East Aurora 1: Hayly Munoz had 2 goals and 1 assist for the Maroons (7-7-1) that helped bring home a UEC crossover win. Margie Troyoke, who spent time in goal with 8 first half saves, also added a goal while Brittany Dazzo and Nathalia Garfias each added assists. Goalie Joana Mercado had 2 saves in the second half.

Huntley 7, Hampshire 0: Alyssa Xanos' tallied 5 goals in Huntley's FVC win. Brenna Keegan (1 assist) and Alyssa Constatino (1 assist) also scored goals for the Red Raiders (6-6-1, 1-4) while Yetzemany Solis topped 3 assists. Hannah Scholer and Savanna Zoellner all had assists as well.

Dundee-Crown 2, McHenry 0: In Fox Valley Conference action, the Chargers (7-8, 3-3) downed the Warriors behind Braylin Mensik and Katelyn Skibinski's goals. Rylee Quillen and Irene Martin each had 1 assist while Diana Santillan's shutout consisted of 5 saves.

CL South 1, CL Central 0 (OT): The Gators (8-5, 4-1) won late again for the second straight time, this time on Taylor Bittenbender's goal in overtime. Goalkeeper Marissa Fetters provided 8 saves for a shutout of South's crosstown rival.

Cary-Grove 2, Jacobs 1: Kelly Stayart's 2 goals helped the Trojans (6-2-2, 5-1) get a FVC win over Jacobs (8-4-2, 2-3), which has lost twice after 8 straight wins. Kailyn Sheehan added 1 assist as well in Cary-Grove's fourth straight win.

Kaneland 3, Morris 1: In NI Big 12 XII East action, the Knights (10-2-1, 2-1-1) went down to 10 players on a red card and still managed to win thanks to Rachael Lutter, Abbie Lomahan and Taylor Carlson's goals. Mallory Burgin lofted Kaneland's only assist.

Harvest Christian 2, Christian Liberty 0: Sonja Jenkins provided 2 goals and Taylor Keeran had both assists in a Northeastern Athletic win for the Lions (8-5-1, 6-0). Isa Garcia had a shutout in goal with 1 save.
