Girls water polo: Hoffman Estates outlasts Libertyville

Hoffman Estates' girls water polo team came up with a victory at home in its season opener Monday.

And the Hawks took their sweet time getting that win.

Hoffman Estates outlasted Libertyville 6-5, ultimately getting the decisive score in the sudden-death OT period from junior Abigail Fuscone, who scored all of the Hawks' goals.

Anna Heard and Hayden Marth both scored twice for Libertyville, which is back in action on Tuesday for another nonconference matchup at Deerfield.

Hoffman Estates begins Mid-Suburban League play with a divisional crossover at Prospect on Wednesday.

St. Charles North 8, Schaumburg 6: Kailey Cordova had 3 goals but the host Saxons dropped their season opener to the North Stars in nonconference play.

Goalie Magda Jasinska stopped 13 shots for Schaumburg.

Olivia Traxler scored 6 goals for St. Charles North in George Mitchell's varsity head coaching debut.

Conant 20, Maine East 6: Nia Tsoulos came up with a team-high 6 goals and Gabi Konieczny had 4 as the Cougars rolled in their season opener. Olivia Olszewski had 3 goals, Amy Rodriguez had 2 and Lauren Day stopped 13 shots for Conant.
