Boys swimming: Schaumburg's seniors step up at Palatine

On Palatine's senior night, a trio of Schaumburg seniors ended up making the difference in a Mid-Suburban West boys swimming and diving dual meet.

The Saxons' Matt Soltau won both the 50-yard freestyle (22.59) and 100 free (49.85), and he also took anchor legs on the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, both of which prevailed in close races as Schaumburg won 102-84.

Schaumburg senior Tyler Reynolds won the 100 fly (56.02) and was second in the 200 free (1:52.45), and senior Matt Kelland joined Ryan Gustafson for both free relays. The Saxons also got a win from Brandon Nyborg in diving (197.60).

Palatine's event winners were senior Sean O'Brien in the 100 back (56.72), senior Jake Klein in the 200 free (1:52.35), sophomore Stefan Filip in the 500 free (5:10.36) and freshman Henry Gabriel in the 200 IM (2:12.56) and 100 breast (1:07.24). The Pirates also had the top medley relay with O'Brien, Gabriel, Christian Snyder and Klein (1:45.46).

Fremd d. Hoffman Estates: The host Vikings stayed unbeaten in duals with a 107-62 victory.

Both Barrington and Fremd are 4-0 against their MSL West foes entering next Friday's league finale matchup between those teams at Barrington.

Against Hoffman Estates, Yoochan Lee was a winner in the 200 free (1:53.64) and 100 fly (54.29). Senior Alex Schillinger won the 200 IM (2:01.97) and later had the fastest clocking in the 100 breast (1:01.30), while junior Paul Ponte won the 500 free (5:11.21) and freshman John Ponte won the 100 free (51.54).

Hawks senior Mark Heitkotter took top honors in the 50 free.

Fremd senior Zach Mega came up with a terrific score of 287.50 to win diving.

Barrington d. Conant: The visiting Broncos were able to sweep the top relay finishes in a 121-65 victory. Barrington got winning performances from Jack Hoppe in the 100 breast (1:00.94), Daniel Langlois in the 200 IM (2:05.77) and 500 free (5:06.94), Sam Burrell in the 100 fly (56.56), Brian Trees in the 100 free (52.40) and Steven Fischer in the 100 back (1:01.30).

Conant's winners were Justin Lim in the 50 free (22.55), Dylan Pokorny in the 200 free (1:58.38) and Kyle Jones in diving (241.65).

Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: Rolling Meadows seniors Josh Dellorto and Jake Pors both won a pair of races to help the Mustangs prevail 124-47.

Other winners for Meadows included Andrew Tavares in the 200 IM (2:09.19), Nate Pardini in the 500 free (5:17.44), Lukas Slifierz in the 100 breast (1:07.13), Lloyd Quadros in the 100 back (1:08.17) and Boris Jevtic in diving (161.50).

Buffalo Grove d. Wheeling: Kevin Carr won the 200 IM (2:20.58) and 100 free (52.40), and the visiting Bison swept the relays to win 129-40.

Other top finishes for Buffalo Grove came from Kenny Velu in the 100 fly (1:01.35), Andy Gontko in the 200 free (1:56.46), Daniil Vasiljevs in the 100 back (1:03.40) and Ryan Egan in the 500 free (5:39.52)

Wheeling got a pair of wins from Nick Konstantos, in the 50 free (24.12) and 100 breast (1:02.74).
