Girls golf: Conant wins third straight regional

Conant coach Megan Hebert watched her Cougars win a third straight Class 2A girls golf regional on Wednesday.

The Cougars shot 328 to top Mid-Suburban League counterparts Schaumburg (347) and Rolling Meadows (390) in the Elk Grove regional played on the Fox Run Golf Club in Elk Grove.

All three MSL squads advance to Monday's Wheaton Academy sectional at the Pheasant Run Golf Course in St. Charles.

Elk Grove (394) and Hoffman Estates (410) were fifth and sixth in the 10-team field.

Conant senior Nimra Syed and Lake Park's Nicole Hansen tied for first with scores of 79 before Hansen won the playoff hole for medalist honors.

Rounding out the Cougars' championship card were senior Lina Jang (81, tied for third), junior Alyssa Brand (83, tie for fifth) and senior Alexis Alcantara (85, seventh place).

Senior Jennifer Cappello shot an 81 (tied for third) to lead Schaumburg.

Senior Trinity Corwin (83, tie for fifth), junior Tatiana Cooper (90) and senior Cheyenne Harris (93) completed the Saxons' card.

Top scorers for Rolling Meadows were junior Mallory Brand (91), sophomore Taylor Lindsey (98), senior Nicole Von Oesen (100) and senior Caroline Smith (101).

Von Oesen earned all-conference honors at last week's Mid-Suburban meet also held at Fox Run.

Other area golfers who advanced to the sectional as individuals were Hoffman Estates senior Christina Wood (88, tied for ninth with Alexis Kim of Conant), Elk Grove senior Kelly Walter (90), Hoffman Estates senior Katarina Ott-Durkin (94) and Elk Grove sophomore Teodora Evtimova (97)

St. Viator regional: Wheaton St. Francis won the Class 1A St. Viator regional at Highland Woods Golf Course in Hoffman Estates with a score of 365.

The host Lions were second (372) and Latin (Chicago) was third with a 385.

Leading the Lions were freshman Cate Reisinger (79), freshman Paige Klostermann (89), junior Caroline Lavender (100) and junior Sophia Solari (104).

St. Viator advanced to Monday's Stillman Valley sectional, to be played on the Prairie View Golf Course in Byron.

Glenbrook North regional: New Trier won the Class 2A regional with a score of 301 while Maine West placed seventh in the nine-team field with a 419 at the Sportsman's Country Club in Northbrook.

Warriors sophomore Anastasia Peric advanced to the Wheaton Academy sectional as an individual with a round of 98.
