Baseball: Bicknase, Sefcik power Wauconda past Lakes
Trevor Sefcik homered twice and Jacob Bicknase also went deep as a part of a 16-hit attack to help host Wauconda past Lakes 15-12 in Northern Lake County Conference baseball on Wednesday.
Sefcik finished 3-for-4 with a walk and 4 RBI.
Other big hitters for Wauconda (10-7 NLCC) included Spencer Bills (2 doubles), Tyler Husko (2-for-4), John Herbst (2-for-4, triple, 4 RBI), Jake Harmon (2 hits, double) and Brock Glavey (2 hits, triple).
Lakes (8-10) got a homer from Ryan Selig and big offensive efforts from Jack Christensen (3-for-5, 4 RBI), Michael Behrendt (3-for-4) and Quinn McCade and Brandon Khan (2 hits apiece).
Ty Janik gave up 2 unearned runs in a 3-inning relief stint to pick up the victory.
Carmel 9, Marian Central 8: Jimmy Tarzon drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to help the Corsairs win in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.
Carmel (19-7, 14-4) was able to force extra innings by scoring 4 runs in the top of the seventh.
Eddie Pietschmann doubled and had 3 hits for Carmel, while Pietschmann, Tarzon, Tony Baumgart and Drew Wiegman each had doubles.
Carmel's third pitcher of the day, Jackson Lubor, got the win and Ethan Elazagui picked up a save.
Libertyville 12, Zion-Benton 9 (8 inn.): The NSC champs wrapped up league play with a 19-2 record with a road win.
Zion-Benton forced extra innings by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Wildcats (28-6 overall) answered back in the eighth, getting an RBI single from Nick Angel, an RBI double from Jackson Petersen and an RBI triple from Tim Jean.
Petersen finished 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI, and teammate Ryan Greenberg had 3 hits, including a double, from the leadoff spot.
Marco Scopacasa missed an opportunity at a save but got the last 4 outs and earned the win.
Warren 11, Stevenson 2: Luke Schmitt had a big day with the bat, finishing 4-for-4 with a triple and 4 runs score to help power a North Suburban Conference win for the host Blue Devils (25-9, 14-6).
Winning pitcher Evan Hill allowed Stevenson 3 hits and struck out three in 5 innings. Vic Perez doubled twice and drove in 2 runs for Warren, and Hill also had 2 hits.
Michael D'Angelo and Benjamin Chestler had doubles for Stevenson (18-13, 12-9).
Grant 4, Grayslake Central 3: Ben Kusiak drove in 2 runs, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, and he also earned a save by tossing 2 scoreless innings as the Bulldogs (17-12, 12-5) won in NLCC play.
Chris Nesterowicz (3-0) earned the win after allowing 1 earned run over 4 innings, and Garet Bauer had 2 hits for Grant.
Grayslake Central slipped to 8-9 overall.
