Softball: Podraza drives in winner as Mundelein edges Stevenson

Molly Podraza's walk-off fielder's-choice RBI lifted Mundelein's softball team to a 5-4 win over Stevenson in North Suburban Conference action Monday.

Mundelein was the home team, even though the game was played at Stevenson because heavy rain made Mundelein's field unplayable.

Stevenson's Mic Faunce homered twice, including a 3-run shot in the top of the seventh that tied the score at 4-4. In the bottom of the inning, Kira Buckner led off for Mundelein by drawing a walk and advanced to second on Olivia Michalski's sacrifice bunt. Kendall Klatt's single put runners on first and third, bringing up Podraza.

Podraza hit a groundball to third base. Buckner got a good jump off third base, Mundelein coach Brett Wilhelm said, and beat the throw home to score the winning run.

Klatt (2-for-3) and Kaitlyn Griffin both doubled for Mundelein (10-12), and Peyton Pribyl was 2-for-4. Winning pitcher Breanna Adams went the distance in the circle, striking out seven and walking two.

Faunce also doubled and finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. Emma Oriatti was 2-for-3 with a double. Faunce and Oriatti had the Patriots' only hits.
