How Team USA captured Sunday's Solheim shootout

Here's a look at how Sunday's singles matches unfolded as Team USA captured the 2009 Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. With the 16-12 victory, the United States remained unbeaten on home soil and recorded its third straight win in the international match play competition featuring the top women's professional golfers.

Match 17: USA

Creamer 3&2 over Pettersen

Recap: Paula Creamer led off with a bang for captain Beth Daniel, going out first and taking it to Suzann Pettersen, who came into the Cup as the top-ranked European in the world.

Creamer quote: "There was a lot of great drama going on. We had putts on top of each other, great par saves by Suzann. Just the whole thing. It was a great match. I played really well and put the pressure on her all day long."

Match 18: USA

Stanford 5&4 over Brewerton

Recap: Angela Stanford's first win of the weekend couldn't have come at a better time, as she put the first point on the board for the U.S. against Becky Brewerton, who has played well all weekend.

Stanford quote: "I felt like I had a handle on the match, but Becky was the longer hitter, and I knew if we went to 15 or even 17, I might be in trouble. So I needed that birdie, that putt on 13, and then to finish it right there on 14 was big.

Match 19: USA

Wie 1 Up over Alfredsson

Recap: Michelle Wie at one point led 3 Up, but the veteran Helen Alfredsson narrowed the gap, forcing the rookie to respond late ... and she sure did.

Kim quote: "I was playing good. If you look at the scores, birdies were made on holes. Helen just played fantastic in a couple holes. I think she played great the whole day. Like I said, it was tough. I had to pull some stuff on her."

Match 20: HALVED

Lang halved with Davies

Recap: What looked to be redemption for Laura Davies after she sat the last three rounds turned disastrous late when she blew a 2 Up lead with two holes to go against Brittany Lang.

Lang quote: "Coming down the stretch I was real solid. But to have halve it with Laura to win the last two holes, that's just great. She's a great player."

Match 21: HALVED

Inkster halved with Nocera

Recap: If this is indeed Juli Inkster's last go-round as a Cup player, she went out with a bang, battling back to halve her match with the red-hot Gwladys Nocera.

Inkster quote: "I played really well today, so I'm very excited. These girls are great. They've got a lot of young talent, and it needs to be passed down right now."

Match 22: EUROPE

Matthew 3&2 over McPherson

Recap: Catriona Matthew, who just won the Women's British Open, struggled this weekend before recording her first win of the weekend in Sunday's singles match vs. Kristy McPherson.

Matthew quote: "Kind of shaky the first three or four holes and then we both started playing well. It was kind of a close game the whole way; I just probably holed a few more putts than Kristy."

Match 23: USA

Lincicome 3&2 over Gustafson

Recap: Brittany Lincicome held a 1 Up lead on the front nine, but thanks to a red-hot putter she slowly began pulling away from Sophie Gustafson on the back nine.

Lincicome quote: "My match really went back and forth starting on No. 1. I made a pretty long putt and Sophie drained it on top of me. So you knew after that first hole it was going to be a tough day, and we kept battling it out."

Match 24: EUROPE

Luna 3&2 over Castrale

Recap: Nicole Castrale capped off a tough weekend (0-3) by dropping her match against Diana Luna, who took the lead on the first hole and never looked back.

Luna quote: "Well, I'm very, very glad to win my point for the team. And of course, I'm feeling sorry that it was not enough. I would have liked every other of my teammates to bring a point as well."

Match 25: USA

Kim 2 Up over Elosegui

Recap: Christina Kim, never one to shy away from emotional antics, didn't disappoint Sunday in taking a tense, often emotional win over Tania Elosegui.

Kim quote: "You know, it was so hard. I mean it's the Solheim Cup. It's the most unbelievable thing in the world. And it's been four years in the making, and you know, this is the greatest moment of my life."

Match 26: HALVED

Kerr halved with Hjorth

Recap: A match that figured to be a key one - Cristie Kerr vs. Maria Hjorth - ended up not mattering thanks to the U.S. clinching the Cup early.

Kerr quote: "I wish I would have finished a little better. I knew that we won it when I saw Christina (Kim) running across the green at the last minute."

Match 27: USA

Pressel 3&2 over Nordqvist

Recap: In the match that eventually clinched the Cup for the U.S., Morgan Pressel won after Anna Nordqvist missed her second putt on No. 16.

Pressel quote: "It's very emotional. It's been a long week, and we've played great, and I'm so proud of our team. They set me up to be able to win on that hole, and it's great. It's a great feeling."

Match 28: HALVED

Gulbis halved with Moodie

Recap: After trailing by as many as three to Janice Moodie, Natalie Gulbis fought back late to square things up, and that's the way the match finished.

Gulbis quote: "Definitely an honor (being the anchor in the lineup). They did it in Sweden and Meg (Mallon) gave me a great talk in Sweden, and when she put me in there again today, that was definitely a big honor."
