VanDyke elected president of Illinois PGA
Trey VanDyke of Riverside, Ill., was recently elected the 22nd President of The Illinois Professional Golfers' Association of America by members at the Association's Fall annual meeting. VanDyke previously served as Secretary of the Illinois PGA from 2004-2006 and Vice President from 2006-2008.
VanDyke succeeds Terry Russell of Arlington Heights, Ill., who will continue to serve on the Illinois PGA board of directors as Honorary President. Succeeding VanDyke as Vice President is Frank Chieppa of Algonquin, Ill, who served the past two years as Secretary of the Illinois PGA.
Scott Sandfort of Algonquin, Ill. was elected Secretary. In addition, four new members of the Illinois PGA board of directors were sworn into office.
VanDyke, 44, is PGA head golf professional at Oak Brook (Ill.) Golf Club. A PGA member since 1991, VanDyke began his career in 1987 as an assistant golf professional at Butler National Golf Club in Oak Brook, Ill. He remained at Butler National until 1991 when he accepted his current position at Oak Brook Golf Club. He has served on numerous committees over the years including chairman of the Finance Committee the past two years and chairman of the Public Relations Committee from 2002-2004.
"The Illinois PGA is both proud and fortunate as Trey begins his term as President of our Section," said Michael Miller, executive director of the Illinois PGA. "In the past, Trey's effort and dedication to the advancement of the Illinois PGA has been truly inspiring. There is no doubt we will continue to benefit from his leadership as President."
Chieppa, 52, is PGA head golf professional at Randall Oaks Golf Club in Dundee, Ill. He was elected to PGA membership in 1984 and has served on the Illinois PGA board of directors since 1997. Chieppa has been at Dundee Township Park District for the past 14 years. He attended Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Ill. and was a two-time MVP on the golf team in 1977 and 1978. He was honored as the 2004 Illinois PGA Professional of the Year, the highest honor bestowed on a PGA professional.
Sandfort, 39, has served as the PGA head golf professional at Elgin (Ill.) Country Club for the past 11 years. He was elected to PGA membership in 1995 and has served on the Illinois PGA board of directors since 1999. He was honored as the 2001 Illinois PGA Private Merchandiser of the Year. Prior to his current position, Sandfort was a PGA assistant golf professional at Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan. from 1993-1996 and Butler National Golf Club in Oak Brook, Ill. from 1996-1997. He attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. and was a member of the golf team.
Four new members were elected to the Illinois PGA board of directors. Serving three-year terms are: Mark Miller, 42, of Glenview, Ill., the PGA director of golf at Sportsman's Country Club in Northbrook, Ill.; Andy Shuman, 46, of Lake Zurich, Ill., the PGA director of golf at Twin Orchard Country Club in Long Grove, Ill.; Mike Scully, 43, of Elgin, Ill., the PGA head golf professional at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club. Carol Rhoades, 45, of Lockport, Ill., is the PGA head golf professional at Stony Creek Golf Course in Oak Lawn, Ill. She will serve a one-year term on the Illinois PGA board of directors.
The Illinois PGA: The Illinois Section of the PGA of America is a professional organization serving the men and women golf professionals in northern and central Illinois who are the recognized experts in growing, teaching and managing the game of golf. The Illinois PGA is responsible for the administration of competitive golf tournaments, educational opportunities, support programs and growth of the game initiatives. With over 820 members and apprentices, the Illinois PGA is the 12th largest of the 41 regional entities or "Sections" that comprise the PGA of America.
