Hits per 9 innings surrendered by Cubs pitcher Rich Harden in his 12 starts with Chicago since his mid-July arrival (39 hits in 71 inning pitched). In 25 total starts, for Chicago and Oakland, Harden allowed more hits than innings pitched only twice.



Cubs pitchers on the 2008 staff who have had at least one 15-win season in their career (Carlos Zambrano, Ted Lilly, Ryan Dempster, Jason Marquis). In 2003, only one pitcher-Mark Prior-held that distinction.

Cubs' batting average (4-for-24) in the top 3 batting spots, through the first two games. Meanwhile, the Dodgers' 1-2-3 hitters were a collective .346 (9-for-26).


Combined errors during the regular season for the Cubs' starting infield of Derrek Lee (9), Mark DeRosa (11), Ryan Theriot (14) and Aramis Ramirez (18). That's roughly one error every three games. In Game 2, all four committed an error apiece.


Errors committed exactly 30 years earlier, on Oct. 2, 1978, by Cubs manager Lou Piniella. As a New York Yankees rightfielder, in a one-game playoff against the Boston Red Sox, Piniella overcame the sun's glare to make a split-second stab of a 9th inning single by Jerry Remy. Had the ball rolled to the wall, the Red Sox would have at least tied the game.

Times that Cubs reliever Neal Cotts has appeared for less than 1 full inning, out of 50 regular-season appearances. He averaged 2.14 outs per game in 2008 - a career-low - and recorded two outs in the 7th inning of Game 2.
