Cubs release infielder Cintron

MESA, Ariz. - The Cubs granted infielder Alex Cintron his release today, trimming their active roster to 30.

Cintron, 29, was signed by the club as a minor league free agent on Feb. 18.

The 30-man roster now consists of 16 pitchers (including non-roster invitee Chad Fox), two catchers, seven infielders and five outfielders.

Cintron, a former member of the White Sox and Diamondbacks, is a career .277 hitter. His best season was in Arizona in 2003, when he hit .317 in 117 games.
