The sounds of the Harper College’s Jazz Ensemble permeated the afternoon air Saturday like the billowing clouds above the sixth annual Juneteenth in the Burbs celebration.

Ghost Army hero Berrnie Bluestein, who died in March, was laid to rest in a private burial in Ohio. But on Sunday, family and friends gathered to celebrate all facets of his life at Chicago Jewish Funerals in Buffalo Grove.

Harper College will host Juneteenth in the Burbs from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, on its Palatine campus. The free event is open to everyone and will feature food, performances, vendors and more.
