Two men charged with stealing from Macy's
Two men have been charged with stealing items from the Macy's store at Oakbrook Center in unrelated incidents Sunday.
Both men are residents of Venezuela staying in Chicago, and prosecutors tried to have them detained pretrial, contending they are at high risk for flight.
According to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office, around 4:23 p.m. Estivenson Martinez Artigas, 28, took a backpack and two coats worth $459. He is charged with misdemeanor resisting or obstructing a police officer and felony retail theft.
At 5 p.m., Jainer Efrain Gutierrez-Quintero, 30, allegedly took eight Polo-brand items worth $1,173. He is charged with felony retail theft.
DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden ruled prosecutors had not proven specific, articulable facts to support the premise the two have a high likelihood of willful flight.
