Naperville firefighters rescue resident from apartment fire

Naperville firefighters rescued a resident who became trapped in a second-floor apartment during a Wednesday afternoon fire.

Firefighters were called to the apartment complex on the 1100 block of Iroquois Avenue just before 4 p.m. for a report of fire in a second-floor unit.

The apartments are home to several elderly and disabled residents, fire officials said.

Firefighters helped relocate many of the residents and rescued one resident through a window on the second floor.

No injuries were reported in the blaze that took nearly 30 minutes to extinguish.

Fire officials are crediting a sprinkler in the affected unit for keeping the fire from spreading to other areas.

In all, six units were deemed uninhabitable, which displaced four residents. They were able to find lodging with family members or other units in the complex, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire caused an estimated $300,000 in damage, fire officials reported.
