Man charged with murder of teen in Carpentersville
A 19-year-old man is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Carpentersville teenager last week.
Alan U. Medina, of the 100 block of Pecos Circle in Carpentersville, also is charged with the attempted murder of two other teenagers injured in the shooting, according to Kane County court records.
The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25, in the 0-100 block of Birch Street, according to police. The body of 17-year-old Anthony R. Aragon Jr. body was found in the road. He had been shot in the head, police said.
Police say they believe the three people were in a car parked on the 0-100 block of Robin Road when someone opened fire on them. They then drove to Birch Street, police said.
The other two victims also are 17 years old, according to court records.
Medina also faces two counts of aggravated battery and an unlawful possession of a firearm charge. Authorities allege a Glock 43X 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun was the weapon used in the deadly shooting.
A Kane County judge ordered Medina to be detained, during his first-appearance court hearing Saturday. His next court date is Nov. 15.
Carpentersville police said last week that they also had taken a 16-year-old "person of interest" into custody. No other information is available about that boy.
A co-worker of Anthony's mother established a GoFundMe.com online fundraiser to help the family pay for funeral expenses. According to the GoFundMe page, Anthony is survived by his parents and five siblings.
