Plainfield restaurants band together to help family of stabbing victim

Several downtown Plainfield restaurants Saturday will be donating a portion of their proceeds to benefit the family of Wadea Al-Fayoume.

The 6-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Plainfield Township. Prosecutors say the man targeted the boy and his mother because of their Muslim faith.

The boy's mother, Hanaan Shahin, has been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries.

During Saturday's Spooktacular event in Plainfield, downtown restaurants will donate a portion of their sales from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the family. Participating restaurants include Moe Joe's, Uptown, Krema, Wine & Cheese, Next Whiskey Bar, Hop Scotch & Vine, Irish Tyme, Station One, Mora and Sovereign.

Donations can also be made directly to the family through the Hanaan Shahin account at Merchants & Manufacturers Bank located at 990 Essington Road in Joliet.
