Police: Chicago man battered woman he picked up in Des Plaines
A Chicago man was arrested Thursday after hurting a woman to whom he'd offered a ride while in Des Plaines weeks earlier, police said Friday.
Jose Rodriguez, 34, of the 5600 block of South Kilbourn Avenue, is charged with battery.
Rodriguez picked up the 20-year-old woman on Aug. 27 on the 2900 block of South River Road. As they drove, he repeatedly battered her, police said.
The woman got out of the orange Chevrolet Aveo at a red light at Des Plaines River Road and Touhy Avenue, fled and called 911, police said. The car was last seen getting onto I-294.
Police tracked down the car and Rodriguez after examining surveillance video.
The victim identified Rodriguez as the person who attacked her during a subsequent photo lineup, police said.
