Carol Stream President Frank Saverino handily won election to a fifth term Tuesday night, according to unofficial results.

Saverino had 2,673 votes, to Trustee Rick Gieser's 1,749, as of 10:40 p.m. All early votes and nearly 99% of election-day votes had been counted by then, plus vote-by-mail ballots. Numbers may change, as vote-by-mail ballots received from now through April 18 can be counted, as long as they were postmarked by Election Day.

The two ran against each other in 2011.

Saverino argued that, with several village department heads getting ready to retire, it was no time to change course. He also said this would be his last time running for office.

Gieser served as trustee from 2003 to 2011 and 2013 to the present. He said the village government could stand to be modernized, and called for environmental work, including installing a community solar farm.
