Grayslake voters favoring village government veterans

Grayslake incumbent village Trustee Elizabeth Davies looked primed Tuesday to secure a third term on the board.

The 42-year-old high school math teacher's 1,940 votes, 29.3% of the tally, led the field of five candidates seeking three 4-year terms.

A pair of Grayslake municipal veterans, incumbent trustee Kevin Waldenstrom and Shawn Vogel, chair of the village's plan commission and zoning board of appeals, were neck-and-neck for the other two seats.

At 9:09 p.m., Waldenstrom had garnered 1,358 votes to Vogel's 1,354 votes, unofficial results show.

Waldenstrom, 49, is a local real estate broker who has served on the village board since 2009, while Vogel, 49, is an engineering manager who served 16 years as a Grayslake trustee before narrowly losing a reelection bid in 2021.

Kathleen Conlon Wasik, 59, a self-employed editor and current president of the Grayslake High School District 127 school board, followed with 1,107 votes. Rachael Rezek, 48, a staff member for state Sen. Mary Edly-Allen and president of the Grayslake Area Public Library board, received 866 votes, unofficial totals show.

Incumbent Ron Jarvis, who has served on the board since 2007, decided not to seek another term.
