Salvation Army volunteers pack emergency flood kits
Updated 3/31/2023 4:18 PM
Almost April showers filled the sky outside as a host of Salvation Army volunteers helped prepare flood kits Friday at the Salvation Army Disaster Services Headquarters in Elk Grove Village.
Each year unpredictable spring weather has the potential to bring catastrophic flooding across the region.
Salvation Army Chicago Advisory Board member Jeanne Malnati of Kenilworth said she volunteered to help pack kits to give back.
"I feel grateful that I am able to contribute. It makes me happy," Malnati said.
The kits include several must-have items everyone needs in a crisis, such as buckets, sponges, masks, brooms, cleaning solutions, mops, gloves, and garbage bags.
The volunteer group aimed to pack about 600 kits Friday and about 3,000 total.
