Join Green Trees Planting Project in Naperville April 2
Illinois once had 14 million acres of trees, but that number has dropped to 5 million due to modern development practices.
Illinois 4-H is partnering with Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts to help turn the tide by planting more than 900 oak trees in 38 counties across Illinois this spring.
4-H families and community members are invited to join the Green Trees Planting Project from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at Boundary Hill Woods, 651 Boundary Hill Road, Naperville.
Participants should bring tools, such as hand shovels, trowels and gloves.
Register at tinyurl.com/36nu4pbc.
Participants will be planting fire-resistant, native oak species in public spaces where the community can enjoy the benefits. These 25-tree savannas will help rebuild our native ecosystems, three-quarters of an acre at a time.
