Q&A
Q: Why are you running for the library board, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you?
A: The Library is a sanctuary for people of all ages. It has many options for our residents and groups that need information or a gathering location. I want to expand our offerings and engage the community to become aware of the limitless information we supply.
Q: Has your library seen a significant shift in the use of online materials? Has it adequately bolstered and promoted its online collection?
A: Yes, we have an excellent online collection and continue to use all types of materials available to us.
Q: What do you see as the future of role of libraries in the electronic age? How well prepared is your library for meeting that role? What new steps must the library begin taking?
A: Through ILA (Illinois Library Association) and other library associations we are able to keep up with the new trends and actively follow those trends.
Q: If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.
A: Retained all staff during Covid crisis. Co-chaired the Library's 50th Anniversary celebration. Changed the term from 6 years to 4 in the hopes of getting more people interested in holding an office.
Q: Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?
A: Yes. About 7 years. Not often enough.
Q: Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach agreement? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions of your library board.
A: I always go in a session with three thoughts: How I feel about it; how others may feel about it and how will this benefit others. It's important to keep an open mind. Many meetings have great discussions and minds change.
Q: What makes you the best candidate for the job?
A: My passion for the staff. They have great innovative ideas and work well as a team. I want to be a part of moving our Library into the future and make our community aware of who we are. I've only just begun!
