Naperville resident nearly scammed out of $9,500

A Naperville resident was almost scammed out of $9,500 by someone who pretended to be her grandson and requested bail money, the Naperville Police Department said in an alert on social media.

The resident withdrew the money from her bank but contacted authorities when the caller instructed her to put cash in a shoe box and give it to a man who would arrive outside her house in a black SUV. She saw a black SUV outside her house at the time, police said An investigation is ongoing.

Naperville police advise residents to be wary of con artists' tactics, including the "Grandparent Scam" that this resident nearly fell for.
