Heavy rains, strong winds forecast for Monday

An umbrella might not be enough to handle the severe weather in the forecast Monday.

The National Weather Service says a robust storm system that was expected to arrive Sunday night would cause heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.

The soaking rainfall may lead to ponding on the roadways, plua some modest river rises and localized flooding during the week.

The strongest storms are expected from 6 to 10 a.m. Monday. Total rainfall could reach an inch, the weather service said.

Isolated showers will dwindle through Monday evening, and northwesterly breezes will usher in a cooler air mass, with temperatures expected to fall back into the 30s into Tuesday morning.
