Sleepy Hollow man pleads guilty to armed violence in gun, drugs case

A Sleepy Hollow man who had faced gun and drug charges pleaded guilty Thursday to armed violence.

Petro Evaristo-Aguilar, 23, of the 900 block of Willow Lane, also pleaded guilty to two counts of mob action.

In exchange for his plea, he accepted a sentence of 17 years in prison - 15 for the armed violence charge and one year apiece on the mob action counts. They will be served consecutively.

On Aug. 25, 2021, Kane County sheriff's office detectives, Illinois State Police and Mokena police were investigating a landscaping equipment theft ring. They searched Evaristo-Aguilar's home and a nearby storage locker and found more than 40 items they suspected were stolen.

They also found several guns, including a Glock 17 pistol that had been modified into a fully automatic weapon; ammunition; a ballistic vest; and 7 grams of cocaine.

According to court documents, one of the guns was found in a bed in which a 2-year-old child was sleeping.

All the other weapon, drug and child endangerment charges were dropped in exchange for the plea.

Evaristo-Aguilar has been held on $500,000 bail at the Kane County jail since his arrest. During that time, he was in two attacks that involved multiple detainees. In April 2022, he kicked and kneed a man. And in December 2022, he hit a man in the head and face.
