Coroner: Lake Co. jail inmate found dead did not suffer any injuries
A 24-year Texas woman found dead in the Lake County jail last week did not suffer any significant injuries prior to her death, Lake County coroner's officials said after an autopsy Monday.
The official cause of death of Khayla Evans of Grand Prairie, Texas remains undetermined pending the results of toxicology and further microbiology testing, according to the coroner's office.
However, an autopsy Monday revealed Evans had underlying medical conditions, the corner's office reported.
A correctional officer conducting routine rounds found Evans unresponsive and without a pulse at about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the county jail's medical pod, officials said. Evans later was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is conducting an independent investigation into the death.
