Visit Lake County wins state tourism award for social media

Visit Lake County, the county's official marketing organization, received the Excellence in Tourism Award for Best Social Media last week at the Illinois Governor's Conference on Travel & Tourism.

Among the campaigns receiving specific recognition was the Spooks & Spirits Autumn Celebration, which directed visitors to area pumpkin patches, corn mazes and "supernatural attractions," as well as Six Flags' Fright Fest. This year's spooks campaign also included a contest where those who checked in at various Lake County breweries, wineries and distilleries had a chance to win a party bus tour of drinking establishments on the Lake County Libation Trail.

This was the second award for the marketing organization in as many years. Last year it was honored for its cooperative partnership with Six Flags Great America in Gurnee and the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort.
