Longtime DuPage treasurer Henry wins reelection

Longtime Republican incumbent Gwen Henry fended off a challenge from Democrat Don Potoczny in the race for DuPage County treasurer.

With 99.8% of the Election Day vote counted Tuesday, Henry led with 167,755 votes to Potoczny's 153,876, according to unofficial totals.

The treasurer is responsible for collecting taxes, paying the county's bills and investing its money.

Henry, a certified public accountant from Wheaton, has served as the DuPage County treasurer since 2006. During her tenure, Henry has worked to improve returns on tax dollar investments and enhance services in the treasurer's office. She implemented efforts to accept credit cards for property tax payments and partial payments from property owners who want to budget their taxes.

Henry is a former mayor of Wheaton; she also served as a county board member and forest preserve commissioner.

Potoczny, a retired Army colonel from Naperville, said during the campaign that he would bring fresh ideas and new energy to the treasurer's office. During his time in the military, Potoczny developed training programs, led software integration projects and managed a multimillion-dollar construction project.
