Q: Describe your position regarding the balance between county spending and revenues as it exists today, then describe the chief threats you see looming in the future and how the county should deal with them.
A: Since I represent the people, my position is to not increase taxes. The biggest threat is the state legislature. They've banned counties from doing business with the federal government. And they continue to pass laws loaded with unfunded mandates. Mandates proven to cost millions of dollars. The County needs to help spread the word what is happening, and try to motivate the people to stand up to the ridiculous laws being passed in Springfield. The County also should use legal means to deal with it.
Q: Is there a specific service or amenity that is lacking in the county? If so, how do you propose to provide and fund it?
A: McHenry County leads the way in services offered. And we have a terrific network of not for profit organizations that provide services for those in need.
Q: Does there need to be more bipartisanship and cooperation on the county board? If yes, what would you do to help make that happen?
A: Yes, as always I communicate a common sense perspective" and the common goal we are trying to achieve, sometimes that can work. A great example of successful bipartisanship is our resurrecting the Valley High Nursing Home operating board committee.
Q: The COVID pandemic put a spotlight on the need for mental health services. What role should the county play in this?
A: Provide continued support for those proving these type of services.
Q: What is the single most important issue facing your district and how should the county address it?
A: The previously mentioned unfunded mandates. And their affect on the budget. We will need to cut expenses somehow, hopefully we can do this in a creative way to not cut any services provided and not increase taxes.
