Inmate found dead in his cell at the Lake County jail

A 51-year-old inmate at the Lake County jail was found dead Friday evening, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The cause of death is unknown.

A correctional officer doing rounds found the Barrington man unresponsive in his bed, according to the release. Officers used a defibrillator and did CPR until Waukegan paramedics arrived and took over. The man was pronounced dead after paramedics gave care for "an extended period of time," according to the release.

The man, who did not have a cellmate, didn't have any signs of marks or injuries but did have numerous underlying health conditions, according to the release.

The man was brought to jail just after midnight Friday after being arrested on an outstanding warrant in unincorporated Barrington for violating an order of protection and.

The death is under investigation by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
