Bartlett Fire Protection District crews prevented damage to an industrial building in the 1400 block of Brewster Creek in Bartlett early Thursday morning by quickly extinguishing a fire in a trash compactor attached to the building.

No firefighters or civilians were injured, and the building remained habitable.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 4:24 a.m. They arrived at 4:30 a.m., saw smoke coming from the trash compactor and declared the fire under control at 4:42 a.m.

Crews continued ventilating smoke and fire gases for some time afterward using Elk Grove Village's mobile ventilation truck.
