Elmhurst lawyer to fill vacant DuPage County judge seat
The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Mia McPherson to replace DuPage County Judge Kavita Athanikar, who is resigning effective Oct. 7.
McPherson will serve until Dec. 5, the end of Athanikar's term.
Athanikar, a Republican, withdrew from the November election several weeks ago, citing illness.
McPherson, a Democrat, is now unopposed for the seat. She lives in Elmhurst and has received a rating of "recommended" from the Illinois State Bar Association.
