Lightning blamed for late night Naperville house fire

Lightning is being blamed for a late night house fire in Naperville that caused an estimated $30,000 in damage Sunday.

Naperville fire officials said they were called to the home on the 4600 block of Corktree Road just before 11 p.m. by residents reporting the lightning strike and fire.

Firefighters reported fire showing from the roof of the two-story, single-family home on the city's far southwest side.

Residents of the home were able to escape safely before firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported.

It took firefighters less than 10 minutes to bring the fire under control, and contain it to the roof area.

Firefighters remained on scene for about 30 minutes to ensure there were no additional hot spots.

City engineers determined the house to be habitable and the residents were allowed to return to their home, fire officials said.
