Police: Car in fatal crash was doing more than 100 mph
East Dundee police said Friday that a Volkswagen Jetta that crashed into a tree last week, killing two people, was likely going more than 100 mph.
Cesar Escobedo, 21, of Hanover Park, and Antony Rueda, 17, also of Hanover Park, were killed.
A passenger, 23-year-old Damian Alfaro of Hanover Park, is hospitalized in critical condition. A 17-year-old boy from Elgin remains in serious condition, according to a news release from the police.
Police have not determined who was driving the car.
The crash happened at 1:32 a.m. Sept. 10 on Main Street, between Route 68 and Van Buren Street.
The Jetta had significant body damage, and the engine separated from its compartment.
Three of the occupants were ejected.
Police said a preliminary analysis of vehicle data indicates the vehicle was doing more than 100 mph.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
